Also, linking the account holder’s mobile number is compulsory to complete the KYC regulation of RBI. So, if you do not register your number with your SBI account till now, please do it first.

How to Register Mobile Number in SBI?

You can register your mobile number in SBI by sms or by visiting your branch. But if you want to mobile number registration process by sms banking, you need to type REG<space>Account Number in your sms app on your mobile and sent it to 09223488888.

Mobile Number Updation by Net-Banking

Note: Before proceeding with this option, make sure you completed the following –

  1. You have an active internet banking facility with login id, password, and profile passwords also.
  2. Linked ATM card
  3. New and old mobile completely functional, to receive and send sms

This method is so handy, and you can change your mobile number in SBI without visiting the branch, by following these steps below:

Step1. Open SBI net-banking portal by clicking on this link –

https://retail.onlinesbi.com/retail/login.htm

Step2. You need to login to your account by entering your login id, password. After login, click on the “My Account & Profile” tab and select the “Profile” option in the displayed options.

Step3. Select Personal Details/Mobile under the Profile option, enter your Profile password (different with your login id), and show your personal details on your screen. Now click on the “Change Mobile Number – Domestic only” (by ATM/OTP/Contact Center).

Step4. You will redirected to the new page and displays different options, then click on the “Create Request” option, and here enter your new mobile number, which one you want to update. And a pop-up message will appear in front of you for confirmation; click on it.

Step5. After approval of changing mobile number requests, you need to choose which one you want to change your mobile number and click on the “Proceed” button.

Step6. In this step, you will select the linked Debit Card and click on the “Proceed” button again. After that, enter your card details, fill in the captcha code and click on the “Submit” tab.

A pop-up message will shown this “Verify and confirm your mobile number xyz” click on the ‘OK’ and proceed further.

Now, on the next screen, you will see three approval options to choose one such as below:

  • Contact Centre
  • OTP on both the Mobile Numbers
  • IRATA: Internet Banking Request Approval by ATM

 A. Authorization via Contact Center

Select the “Approval through Contact Center” option on the computer screen.

Click on the “Proceed” dialog box.

By clicking on the button for which you have a debit card, pick the account.

Click the “Proceed” tab. The ATM cards associated with the chosen account would show on the next screen.

Pick your ATM card and press the “Continue” icon. The State Bank of India’s Payment Gateway will show on the next screen.

Enter the card’s specifics (card number, valid expiration date, name of the cardholder, PIN, and the characters visible in the box).

Click the “Send” tab. Check the details and press the “Pay” tab.

The following message will displayed to the customer’s screen when validation is successful; “Thank you for registering your mobile number with us. The status of your submission is pending.” Please complete the procedure of registration according to the choice chosen by you.

An SMS containing “Change/Update Mobile Number Reference Number: UMXXXXXXXXXXXXX” will be sent to the current mobile number through the Internet banking system.

The Bank Contact Center individual can only call you on your new mobile number over the next three working days. Before revealing your personal information, ask the Contact Center individual for a reference number.

The Contact Center can confirm your call-over identification by asking for some details.

They will copy the latest telephone number entered by you to internet banking, core banking solutions, and ATM, following successful knowledge authentication. On your new mobile number, the bank would also send an reply in this respect to you.

B. OTP on both the mobile numbers

If you have both an old and a new mobile number, you can use OTP to authorize the mobile number alter electronically.

Select the alternative “By OTP on both mobile numbers” on the screen.

Click the “Proceed” tab.

By clicking on the button for which you have a debit card, pick the account.

Click the “Proceed” tab. The ATM cards associated with the chosen account would show on the next screen.

Pick your ATM card and press the “Continue” icon. The State Bank of India’s Payment Gateway will show on the next screen.

Enter the card’s specifics (card number, valid expiration date, name of the cardholder, PIN, and the characters visible in the box).

Click the “Send” tab. Check the details and press the “Pay” tab.

On OK authentication, OTP will be submitted by the internet banking system and the old as well as current mobile phone reference number.

SMS from All (old and new) cell numbers must be submitted in the following ACTIVATE format <8 digit OTP value> <13 digit reference number> within four hours to 567676. E.g. UM12051500123

Upon successfully validating the OTP value and reference number, a message will be displayed on your mobile phone, including new number register confirmation to internet banking, core banking solutions, and ATM. 

C. Request for Internet Banking Approval by ATM (IRATA)

Select the “IRATA: Internet Banking Request Permission from ATM” option. Click on the “Proceed” tab.

By clicking on the displayed button for which you have a debit card, pick the account. Click on the “Proceed” tab.

You will see the associated ATM cards with the chosen account on the next screen. select appropriate, and click on the “Proceed” tab. The SBI’s Payment Gateway will show you on the next screen.

Enter the card’s details (card number, valid expiration date, name of the cardholder, unique PIN, and the characters visible in the box). Click the “Pay” tab. Test and press the “Pay” tab.

The following message will be displayed on the screen upon successful validation: “Thank you for registering your mobile number with us. The status of your submission is pending. Please complete the procedure of registration according to the choice chosen by you. “

The SMS containing the “Change/Update Mobile Number Reference No. is: XXXXXXXXXXXXX and your IRATA reference number is XXXXXXXXXXXX” would be sent to your current mobile number by the Internet banking system.

Visit any ATM of the State Bank, swipe your card, choose the tab “Services” and insert your unique PIN number.

On the ATM panel, select the “Other” tab and choose the “Online Banking Request Acceptance” choice. For the acceptance of the submission, insert the 10-digit reference code. The bank will get your request (mobile number change) upon satisfactory completion of the process.

The new mobile number entered by you will change soon for internet banking, core banking solutions and ATM after successfully confirmation of the OTP value and reference number.

Check status or cancel a request.

You may view the status of your mobile number update/change request via internet banking.

Login your SBI Online account by clicking this link

Go to the “Profile” link, and click on the “Personal Details” tab.

On screen display the name, email ID, and registered mobile number with Internet Banking. Now click on the “Change Mobile Number-Domestic only (Through OTP/ATM/Contact Centre)” option.

A new “Personal Details-Mobile Number Update” panel will appear, with three “Create Request”, “Cancel Request” and “Status” sections.

To see the current Pending/Successful status of your request to modify your mobile number by Internet Banking, click on the “Status” link.

Now, please click on the “Cancel Request” tab and pick the request if you wish to cancel the request.

To cancel the request order, press the “Cancel Request” icon. The notification “Your Reference Number xyz” is cancelled successfully is shown on the computer.
