Madras University Distance Education or IDE (Institute of Distance Education) is a section of the Madras University for distance learning. Madras University establishes it in 1981 to provide better opportunities for excellent education to all.

IDE takes admissions applications for all 63 courses for the entire year in theses streams like Arts, Commerce, Science, Information and Technology, and Management. For UG and PG admissions, students can apply two times in the year and get admissions according to the merit list.
